Our History

Located in the heart of Strathalbyn, South Australia, the Victoria Hotel is one of the state’s oldest pubs, with a rich history dating back to 1865. Constructed from local bluestone, it has proudly stood over Angas Park for more than 170 years, becoming an integral part of the community.

Strathalbyn’s early prosperity was driven by the flow of travellers heading to Victoria’s Goldfields. The hotel was a welcome stop for these travellers, providing provisions and a place to rest as they made their way along the route. The arrival of the railway in 1883 further boosted the town’s growth and its prominence as a commercial hub.

The hotel has long been a venue for important community events—from hosting farewell gatherings to holding sports club meetings, such as the Strathalbyn Football Club’s annual dinner in 1894.

Over the years, the Victoria Hotel has continued to serve the community, offering a welcoming atmosphere and warm hospitality. Today, it stands as a proud example of country charm and a place to enjoy quality food, wine, and great company.
